Abstract
1391078 Making wood veneer AARONSON BROS Ltd 18 July 1973 [21 July 1972] 34231/72 Heading B5L A method of making wood veneer sheets comprises forming a block by pressing a stack 5 of glued wood veneer laminations between upper and lower jigs 6, 1 having complementary curved profiles of different depths, maintaining the pressure while the glue sets, and slicing sheets from the block using the knife of a flat cutting machine. The depth of the curved profile of the jig of lesser depth, i.e. the concave jig 6, is less than one eight of its width and the depth of the curved profile of the other jig, i.e. the convex jig. 1, is less than one sixth of its width. The central portions, 4b and 9b, Figs. 2 and 3, of the curved profiles of both jigs are of substantially less curvature than the marginal portions 4a, 4c and 9a, 9c of the respective jigs. As described the curved profiles of the jigs are provided by rough sawn surfaces of a number of wooden blocks secured together to form the curved sections 3, 8 of the jigs. Each jig has a width of 20 to 21 inches, the curved profile of the section 3 has a depth of 2# inches and the curved profile of the section 8 has a depth of 2 inches. The depths of the central and marginal portions indicated as 4d, 4e, 4f and 9d, 9e, 9f are respectively, in thirty seconds of an inch, 14, 6, 13, 14, 4, and 13¢.
