Oct. 3, 1917 Stoppers, catch.-Relates to closures for bottles of the kind in which a disk of cork or other resilient material is held on a ledge or shoulder within the bottle mouth by a plate or cover having arms extending down outside the bottle neck and engaging a shoulder thereon. The cover D, Fig. 1, of tin, aluminium, &c., is made concave or dished to receive the sealing-disk C, and with arms or wings d which are bent round the bottle head and out of which tongues d<1> are cut or stamped and pressed inwards to form anchors to engage the undercut groove b in the external shoulder B on the bottle neck. Fig. 2 shows a modification in which a second locking-groove b<1> is formed on the bottle head, and each of the wings d of the cap or fastener D is provided with two tongues d<1>, d<2> to engage the grooves b, b<1>. The cap may have three or more wings, and the dished cap and wings are preferably stamped from a single blank, but the cap and wings may be in two parts, the wings being joined by a strap which passes over the top of the cap, and may be soldered thereto. The disk C may be impregnated or covered with paraffin wax &c., and may be loose or secured to the cap D.
