Sealing devices for stoppers and other closures.-In a bottle or other container, two or more tongues on either the container or its closure are bent over the closure e or container to secure the closure in the sealing position, one or more cams or inclined planes being provided on either the closure or the container to force out one or more or all of the tongues on relative movement between the closure and the container and thus leave the closure free for removal from the container. The cap 1 is formed with depending tongues 2 and the container 3 with a. flange 4 the undersurface of which is undulated. The tongues are bent beneath the flange at its recessed portions 5 so that if subsequently the cap is rotated relatively to the container, the raised portions 6 will unload the tongues and permit removal of the cap. In a modification the undulations are formed on the vertical face of the flange 4. The cap may be secured by a single tongue 2, Fig. 6, and a wide tongue 7, the flange of the container being provided with one recessed portion only. In other forms, the tongues are formed on a flanged metal ring which holds down a stopper comprising a disc of glass, porcelain or composite material. The inclined planes may be constituted by interrupted or continuous threads on the container, the cap being provided with projections or threads to cooperate therewith. Fig. 24 shows a screwed annulus 20<a> sealed by tongues 2 and formed with an inner flange 24 adapted to retain the disc closure 25 of a milk bottle. The flange of the cap may be milled to facilitate rotation thereof. In another form the tongues are made somewhat resilient and constitute holding means which adapt the cap to be used to re-seal the container. The tongues may be formed on the container. As shown in Fig. 7, the tongues 2a on the container are bent over the stopper which rests on a flange 11 formed in the container. A knob 9 or other device facilitates rotation of the stopper to bring cams 6<a> beneath the tongues to release the. stopper. The container may have one narrow and one wide tongue only equivalent to the tongue 2, 7, Fig. 6, on the closure.
