Abstract
1,185,304. Transformers. HAWKER SIDDELEY DYNAMICS Ltd. 14 March, 1967 [17 March, 1966], No. 11827/66. Heading H1T. An, electrostatic screen is applied over an electrical winding 1 e.g. of a toroidal transformer, by placing a layer of insulating material 3, e.g. P.T.F.E., over the winding, coating it with conductive paint 4, leaving a narrow uncoated strip 6 produced by e.g. masking using tape 5, applying insulating tape 7 along the uncoated strip so that one edge of the tape 7 lies within the width of the strip and the other overlaps the coating, then applying conductive paint 8 to the remaining uncovered portion of the uncoated strip and continuing the coating over the width of the tape 7 such that an opencircuited turn is produced with its ends slightly overlapping but spaced by tape 7. The winding may first be covered with cotton tape 2 and varnish-impregnated earth connection to the screen may be by a strip of copper foil (9) (Fig. 1, not shown) or a conductor secured by conductive cement. The paint is cured and the winding and screen covered by one or two layers of cotton tape. Multiple screens may be provided.
