Abstract

1,178,316. Cables. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd. 2 Oct., 1968 [3 Oct., 1967], No. 44889/87. Heading H1A. A cable core (or group of cores) has on its surface a tubular light-current conductor or screen formed from an electrically conductive tape (e.g. copper or silver foil) which carries on at least its inner surface a coating of an adhesive which is effective and permanently tacky at all temperatures likely to be attained by the cable after the application of the tape. The outer surface of the tape may be free from adhesive or may be coated with a thermoplastic material. The adhesive may be transferred to the surface(s) of a copper foil tape from a transferable adhesive-coated'tape. The tape may be applied helically or longitudinally with overlapping or abutting edges, or a small gap between the edges. The tubular lightcurrent-conductor or screen may be supplementary to a tubular screen of another form; for example it may be surrounded by a screen of fine wires, constructed in accordance with Specification 1,161,879.
