Abstract
906,631. Cables. PIRELLI S.p.A. Dec. 22, 1960 [Feb. 4, 1960], No. 44046/60. Class 36. A high-tension electric cable has a helically wound screening of double-layer tape 2 over the conductor 1. The component 2a of the tape in contact with the conductor is of either aluminium foil or of carbon loaded paper while the other component 2b is of insulating paper. This tape is wound so that each turn partially overlaps the adjacent turn, and a narrower insulating tape 3 is wound to the same pitch as tape 2 so that the protruding overlap of the latter falls within the gap between adjacent turns of tape 3. The tape 4 forming the cable dielectric, which may be of oil-impregnated paper or of a known synthetic material, is of a width such that when wound to the same pitch as are tapes 2 and 3 it completely covers the gaps between adjacent turns of tape 3 and hence covers the overlap of screening tape 2. A further winding 3<SP>1</SP> of insulating tape and a winding 2<SP>1</SP> of the double-layer tape wound with the conductive or semiconductive layer 2a<SP>1</SP> outwards are wound around the dielectric 4 and the cable completed by its sheath 5.
