Abstract

1,184,906. Sliding clasp fasteners. YOSHIDA KOGYO K.K. 12 April, 1967 [13 April, 1966; 18 April, 1966], No. 16793/67. Heading E2S. A sliding clasp fastener has a pair of stringer tapes T each having a bottom portion T' and carrying a row E of interlocking elements made from a single filament terminating in a linear part 11, the rows being adapted to be interlocked by a slider, thread means for stitching said rows of elements to said tapes, and an end fitting comprising a pin member 16 and a box member 17 secured to the bottom portions of the two stringer tapes respectively, the linear part of each of the two rows extending in contact with one side of the bottom portion of the corresponding stringer tape. In the construction shown each linear part extends parallel to the edge portion of its tape and the end fitting members are formed and secured to their respective tapes by an injection moulding process, the bottom portion of each tape being reinforced at the same time by portions 12 integral with the end fitting members. In this form the rows of elements are of meander kind. In an alternative construction each linear part extends parallel to the respective tape edge but a reinforcing strip is wrapped around the bottom portion of the tape over the linear part and adhesively secured to the tape with heat and pressure if necessary and the end fitting member which can be either of metal or plastics material is secured to the reinforcing strip. In a modification each linear part 11 extends at an angle to the edge of its tape within the reinforcing strip. Coil type elements can be substituted for meander type and in each case the stitching which is used to secure the rows to the tapes act as beads which help to key the end fitting members to their respective tapes. The rows of fastener elements can be made from a fastener element chain which has a linear portion interposed at intervals between series of interlocking elements the linear portion being utilised as the part 11.
