1418585 Sliding clasp fasteners YOSHIDA KOGYO KK 1 Oct 1973 [5 Oct 1972] 45709/73 Heading E2S A sliding clasp fastener comprises a pair of opposed stringer tapes, such as T, of a coarse structure having open interstices therein, a supporting core C extending longitudinally of the stringer tape and partly exposed through said interstices, each of said pair of tapes being folded on itself around said core and bonded thereto so as to form an element-carrying edge along said core, a series of discrete fastener elements E each having upper Ea and lower Eb legs extending in a common direction transverse to a longitudinal direction of the series of fastener elements and defining a space therebetween, said series of fastener elements being moulded in situ to said element-carrying edge, and the material from which the fastener elements are moulded extending through said interstices and forming a unitary bond with the exposed core and the stringer tape, whereby said fastener elements have their upper and lower legs mounted outside of said element-carrying edge and joined integrally together. As shown, each tape T, Fig. 1, which comprises warp and weft threads W, Y, respectively coarsely woven together to form the interstices 11, is wrapped around a cord C to form two separate tape halves which may be bonded together and which are bonded to the cord C, e.g. by an adhesive. The tape T and the cord are fused together when they are made of plastics material. When the elements E are attached to the edge 12, e.g. by injection, or extrusion, the molten material of the leg portions Ea, Eb passes through the interstices 11 to unite them integrally with the cord C. If the tapes are made of thermoplastic material they can be fused to the elements E.
