Abstract

1,010,956. Sliding clasp fasteners. SCOVILL MANUFACTURING CO. March 26, 1964 [April 12, 1963], No. 13042/64. Heading E2S. A sliding clasp fastener stringer comprises a coupling member made from a single filament of plastics material having along its outer edge in use a series of integrally united coupling elements with longitudinally aligned head portions 6 each element having spaced apart transversely extending leg portions 7 and 8 and the coupling member having along its inner edge in use bridging portions 9 connecting the leg portions of each element to those of adjacent elements, a flexible core 10 in the space between said leg portions, a unitary supporting tape having wide and narrow portions each consisting of interwoven warp and weft threads connected by a section of only weft threads, the weft threads passing across the coupling member between the coupling elements behind the head portions and outwardly of the core, the narrow portion of the tape overlying the major part of the coupling member behind the coupling head portions, and means for holding the tape in position comprising stitching passing through the tape narrow portion, through the coupling member between the leg portions, through the flexible core and through the wide portion of the tape. The coupling member is either of the coil type as shown or of the type in which the filament is formed into a regular serpentine shape and then bent to U form.
