Abstract

1,024,733. Sliding clasp fasteners. LIGHTNING FASTENERS Ltd. April 7, 1964 [April 16, 1963], No. 14915/63. Heading E2S. In a sliding clasp fastener having an open end fitting comprising a pin member 6, Figs. 3, 4 carried on a stringer tape 2a and a socket member 5 carried on a second stringer tape 2, the stringer tapes being of woven material, a reinforcement 9 of thickness not greater than that of the tape is substituted for the woven material in an area adjacent the pin member 6, the area comprising that portion of the stringer tape which enters the tape gap of a slider when the pin member is inserted in the socket member 5. As shown, the reinforcement 9 is in the form of a web integrally connected with pin 6 and with a rib 10, the latter being formed with a spigot portion 13 for locating the rib as it passes through the slider channel. Both pin and socket members are formed of a plastics material by injection moulding operations, and the pin member web and rib formation is located in a cut away 8, Fig. 1, of a gap-space between adjacent series of fastener elements 1a. Plastics material is also moulded across the tape at a position 14 where the tape is subsequently cut to produce a fastener stringer. The arrangement is such that when the stringer ends are united by the members 5 and 6, the pin member 6 is located outside the slider when the latter is positioned at that end of the stringers. In another embodiment, Fig. 9 (not shown) a pin member is moulded on the inner edge of the tape and the cut away is in the form of an aperture. A web of plastics material is moulded in the aperture and connects with a reinforcement which is provided with slots for the passage of a needle when the fastener is sewn to a garment.
