1484330 Sliding clang fasteners YOSHIDA KOGYO KK 30 Dec 1974 [29 Dec 1973] 55992/74 Heading E2S The invention relates to a sliding clasp fastener of the kind which comprises a pair of stringers 10, 10 each having a tape 11 with a continuous coupling element 12 secured along one of its longitudinal edges opposed to the other stringer tape, said continuous coupling element having a series of transverse portions 15 each with a coupling head 16 at one end and a series of connective portions 17 arranged remote from the coupling heads 16, and a slider 19 slidable along said continuous coupling elements 12 to open or close the sliding clasp fastener. According to the invention a pair of support members 23, 23 of resilient plastics material overlie and unite with several of said connective portions 17, including the uppermost ones, of said continuous coupling elements, respectively, and a pair of top stops 22, 22, each in the form of a strip of metal, are secured to said stringers by clamping engagement of said stringer tapes and said support members respectively to limit the movement of the slider along said continuous coupling elements in the fastener closing direction, each of the top stops being received between two adjacent transverse portions of the respective continuous coupling element. As shown, each continuous coupling element 12 comprises a coil, or helix, of synthetic resin filament and is stitched, at 14, to one surface only of each stringer tape 11. The support members 23, preferably made of thermoplastic synthetic resin, is fused to the several connective portions 17 of the coupling elements 12 and to a tape-end covering, e.g. by high frequency or, ultrasonic welding. The fastener-closing movement of the slider 13 is arrested in its uppermost position in which the stops obut against the respective divergent portions 20 of the slider flanges 19. The support member 23a, Fig. 4, has a stop 24 along one edge. The term clamping engagement is meant, according to the invention, to include an arrangement whereby a metal top stop has pointed or, tapered ends that are driven through the respective stringer tape and perhaps clinched.
