Abstract

1467526 Top stops for sliding clasp fasteners YOSHIDA KOGYO KK 30 Dec 1974 [29 Dec 1973] 55988/74 Heading E2S The invention relates to a sliding clasp fastener of the type which comprises a pair of stringer tapes 10, 10 each having a continuous coupling element 13 arranged on one surface thereof so as to extend along its one longitudinal edge adjacent the other stringer tape the coupling element being made of synthetic resin filament and including a series of coupling heads 16 arranged along one longitudinal edge of the coupling element and a series of connective portions 17 arranged along the other longitudinal edge of the coupling element, and a slider 11 slidable along said coupling elements and including a body having a flared top end and a contracted bottom end, said slider body including a front wing 18 and a back wing 19 which are interconnected by a web 20 and said front wing having a pair of side flanges 21, 21. According to the invention a pair of top stops 26, 26 made of synthetic material, are fused to the stringer tapes at the upper extremities of the coupling elements, respectively, each of the top stops integrally comprising a stop portion 28 against which the top edge of one of the side flanges 21 of the front wing abuts when the slider is moved along the coupling elements to its predetermined topmost position, and a guide portion 27 which is substantially in the shape of a right angled triangle, as seen in plan view, and which generally tapers in a direction away from the top end of the fastener, the guide portion 27 being adapted to enter relatively into the slider body through the flared top end when the slider is moved close to the said topmost position and hence to guide the slider to said top-most position. Further according to the invention, the stop portion 28 of each top stop is substantially rectangular in shape and is greater than the guide portion 27 both in height and in a dimension in a transverse direction of the tape, the stop portion 28 and the guide portion 27 of each top stop enveloping and uniting integral with several of said connective portions 16, including the top-most one, of the corresponding coupling element. As shown in Figs, 1, 2, each coupling element 13 is stitched at 14 to one surface only of the respective tape 12 with the aid of a core 15, the top stops 26, made e.g. of nylon, being fused to the respective tapes and to several connective portions 17 adjacent the upper extremity of the fastener and the top-most coupling head 16, if necessary, being removed.
