Metal or alloy strip is induction annealed in the form of a cylindrical hollow coil in which adjacent turns are in electrical contact and preferably secured against loosening. Annealing is preferably effected until the inner turns of the coil reach a predetermined temperature and an isothermal distribution of temperature is provided throughout the cross-section of the coil. Heating, or cooling of the heated coil, may be effected under an atmosphere of air or protective gas or vacuum.
