Abstract

1,273,191. Treating coiled metal foil. MIDLAND-ROSS CORP. Sept. 29, 1969 [Oct. 25, 1968], No. 47815/69. Heading C7N. Gases and vaporizable liquids are scavenged from a tightly wound coil of metal foil by placing it in a vacuum furnace, heating it to a temperature which enables said liquids to boil at some point within the vacuum range of said furnace, subjecting said coil to a partial vacuum sufficient to cause said liquids to boil and be evolved as vapours, cooling said coil in a protective atmosphere under at least about atmospheric pressure and removing said coil from said furnace. Prior to heating the coil the furnace may be evacuated to purge contaminating gases and then back filled; the furnace pressure may be varied to control vapour evolution rate; the coil, which may be of Al, may be annealed while subjected to partial vacuum.
