Abstract

1,183,658. Spindle driving mechanism. E. T. SCRIVEN. 6 Aug., 1968, No. 37480/68. Heading D1D. A spindle 15 is driven by fractional contact with the inner surface of a rotating cylindrical member 12, the spindle being held against the surface by a freely rotatable guide roller 14 which is adjustably mounted in relation to the cylindrical member 12. An auxiliary, freely rotatable, roller 19 is preferably provided which is in contact both with the guide roller and the surface so as to rotate the former and relieve the torque load on the spindle. Both rollers are supported, together with the spindle, on an arm 17 which is movable transversely to the rotational axis of the member 12. The spindle may be a false twist spindle including a cross pin, in which case the lower part of member 12 is of annular convex shape so as to move the yarn, which enters through shaft 22, around its own axis, to assist the false twist action 1.
