Complementary socket and plug connector parts 1, 2 comprise arrays of contact-carrying insulating plates 6, 12 interleaved with springs 14 and retained on bars 5, 11 by end plates 3 and 4, 9 and 10, the registration of parts 1, 2 on engagement being facilitated by co-operating projections 33 and recesses 34 on end plates 3, 9 respectively. Pressure between contact blades 13 and socket contacts, which comprise opposed blades 7, 8, is produced by tightening a nut 20 on the threaded end of a rod 16 against a pressure plate 18 whose two parts 17, 22 are linked by projections 19 and recesses 23 on. coupling the connector. Tightening of the nut 20 resiliently pulls together the contactcarrying plates 6, 12 in each connector part and forces projections 26 on each plate 6 against the socket contacts of an adjacent plate 6, thereby closing the socket contact blades 7, 8 around the contacts 13. A cover 32, for housing terminal connections and which includes a cable grip, is secured to one of the connector parts by screws.
