Abstract
1,181,264. Stabilized silver halide. CARLZIESS - STIFTUNG, [trading as JENAER GLASWERK SCHOTT & GEN.]. 21 Sept., 1967 [29 Sept., 1966], No. 42989/67. Heading C1A. Silver halide, e.g. silver chloride, which is stabilized against the action of light and U.V. radiation by incorporating therein a mercury compound, e.g. mercuric chloride, is compressed into an optical element at a pressure of 500 to 5000 atmospheres at a temperature of 20‹ to 300‹ C. The light stabilized silver halide which may be obtained by precipitation from an aqueous silver salt solution in the presence of a mercury compound, may be melted in a sealed tube or an autoclave under a mercuric chloride atmosphere and after cooling may be compressed between two polished dies. About 1% of an alkali metal halide may be added before compressing to harden the light-stabilized silver halide.
