Abstract

1,178,638. Laryngoscope. A. S. LAERDAL. 12 Feb., 1968 [18 Feb., 1967], No. 6847/68. Heading A5R. A laryngoscope comprises a body 1 containing a dry battery 2 in contact with terminals 3, 4 and 5, terminals 3 and 5 being equivalent and diametrically opposite to each other, and a spatula 10 containing an electric bulb 9, and a tube 8 carrying electric leads from the bulb to a terminal block 7 from which contacts 20 and 22 (Fig. 5, not shown) project so as to contact the terminals 3 (or 5) and 4 when the spatula is moved to the operative position. The spatula is pivotally attached to the body at 13 by a spring-loaded pin 15 (Fig. 3, not shown), the pivot joint being readily taken apart and reassembled with the spatula in either of the two positions in which contact is made (i) with terminals 3 and 4 or (ii) with terminals 4 and 5. The lamp holder, leads and associated contacts constitute a unit removable from the body.
