Abstract

1318190 Portable road signs JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 27 July 1970 [15 Aug 1969] 40902/69 Heading E1G [Also in Division F4] A portable sign for children's crossings comprises a hollow head 12 having opposed planar walls carrying legends illuminated by internal bulb(s) powered by batteries in a two-part handle 18-22 having a switch 32. The handle parts 18, 22 are tubular and detachably connected by a push and twist action, the lower tube being of metal and housing, say eleven dry cells. The upper tube 18 is of p.v.c. and has a protruding sleeve 21, Fig. 4, and an enlarged end 19 providing an annular socket for the tube 22. Electrical connections comprise a phosphor-bronze strip 26a and a spring-loaded contact 27. The portion 19 may have a flattened part cooperating with a slot and aperture in the upper end of tube 22 to provide the push and twist connection, or a through-rivet cooperating with an L slot in the tube 22.
