Class 39(2) [Also in Group XXXVII] An electric battery lamp having two electric light bulbs supplied from a common battery, has switch means consisting of a movable arm and two contacts separated by a gap such that the arm can be brought into contact with either contact to complete the circuit of one or other of the bulbs or can be moved into position to bridge the gap btween the contacts to light both bulbs simultaneously. The lamp may comprise a rectangular casing 10, Fig. 2, with the main bulb 14 mounted together with a reflector 16 on a hinged lid 12 at one end. The second bulb is mounted in a casing 27 having a red window 9, this casing being carried by a U-shaped arm 24, pivoted at its open end on the casing 10. A carrying handle 19 is provided on the top of the casing between the arms of the U and a second handle 20 of wire is pivoted in shallow cups 21 on the sides of the casing having serrated edges serving to locate this handle in desired angular positions. The switch comprises a knob 39, Fig. 11, of insulating material mounted on a pin 50, its rotation being limited by a pin 51 moving in an arcuate slot in the knob. The pin 50 is connected to one pole of the battery and is in contact with a strip 57 within the knob 39, the other end of the strip engaging a spring 38 terminating in a ball 37. Below the knob 39 is a sheet of insulating material 42 having three holes through which the ball can press one or other of two metal plates connected respectively in the circuits of the two bulbs or on a metal bridging piece 53 whereby contact is made with the two plates simultaneously.
