Abstract

A portable electric lamp has a rectangular case made in two parts (1a, 1b) hinged together. The bulb (2) fitted in the upper part of the case receives current either directly from the mains or from a rechargeable battery (10). The lamp can be connected directly to the mains by means of the pins (5, 6) which fit a standard socket. A circuit (8) includes a rectifying circuit and a switching circuit so arranged that when the lamp is connected to the mains the light is not normally switched on. On removing the lamp from the mains or if there is a mains failure the light automatically switches on.
