A device for measuring torque transmitted between two shafts comprises a pair of members 10, 11 connectable to the shafts, relative angular movement between the members 10, 11 being permitted, the members 10, 11 being provided with portions 13, 19 having co-operating faces which move relative to each other due to the transmitted torque, such movement being opposed by fluid having a pressure indicative of the torque. The portions 13 which are provided with through-bores 17 are secured at diametrically opposite locations on the outer periphery of the member 10 which is generally cylindrical and provided with slots 27 and ports 40 forming part of a passageway system for the fluid. The portions 19 secured to the inner surface of the member 11 which is arranged to surround the member 10 are provided with bores 24, 25 which can communicate with the slots 27 or ports 40. When torque is applied between the shafts connected to the members 10, 11 relative movement of the portions 13 and 19 occurs so as to form a pair of enclosures between juxta-positioned faces of the portions 13, 19. Such enclosures are supplied with fluid under pressure via passageways 32, 31, 33, slots 27 and bores 24 or 25 from a system 34 connected via a restrictor 35 to a pressure gauge 36 until the fluid is at such a pressure as to escape to atmosphere from the enclosures via bores 17, 25 or 24 and ports 40, such pressure being indicated on the gauge 36 and being indicative of the transmitted torque.
