[Also in Division F2] A load measuring apparatus so comprises two members which between them define a space to receive gaseous fluid under pressure and which are movable relatively one with the other so that when a load is applied to one of the members the resulting relative positioning of the members affects the pressure of the gaseous fluid which pressure is indicative of the load. In the described embodiment, there are provided two members relatively rotatable about a common axis and relatively movable in a direction perpendicular to the common axis and a space between them is so supplied with gaseous fluid under pressure from radial passageways (12) Fig. 1 (not shown) communicating with a central supply conduit (11) that the tension in a belt, film, thread or the like (18) Fig. 2 (not shown) passing 180‹ over the outer member (17) is measured and/or controlled from the resulting pressure differences detected by a pressure transducer (21) of the diaphragm type in two passageways (20) which are set 180‹ apart.
