Abstract

1,173,798. Hose end fittings. F. R. DUFFIELD. 6 March, 1967, No. 10427/67. Heading F2G. A hose end fitting 10 comprises a stem having a threaded portion 12 and a tapered portion which is adapted to enter the end of a hose 15, and a body portion 19 adapted to be screwed onto the threaded portion 12 of the stem and provided with ridges 20 on its interior surface so as to grip the material of the hose end on the body portion 19 being swaged about the hose end. The body portion 19 is also provided with a skirt portion 23 beyond the portion having the ridges, the skirt portion 23 having an internal ridge 22 at its outer edge. The stem may be provided with a further threaded portion 11 for connection to another member, e.g. a nozzle, and a nut 13. The body portion or ferrule 19 is further provided with annular grooves 21 to facilitate the swaging operation. The body portion or ferrule may have a gradually tapering cross-section. In affixing the hose end fitting to the hose 15 the outer covering of the hose, which is resilient, is removed and a wire reinforcement 18 is gripped by the ridges which may be teeth or buttresses. Part of the threaded portion 12 of the stem may also come into contact with the reinforcement 18.
