Abstract

1,172,119. Electric couplings. HEPWORTH ELECTRICAL DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. 4 Nov., 1988 [8 Nov., 1967], No. 50699/67. Heading H2E. A main insulated conductor and at least one branch conductor are connected together by a connector comprising two identical semicylindrical insulating members 1 having interlocking tongue and recess end portions 2, 3 secured by steel pins 4 located in bores 5. Each member 1 is formed with a hole 6 intersecting a recess 7 of square lateral cross-section in which are located a non-rotatable nut 9, a pair of plain washers 13 and a pair of Belleville spring washers 12. A screw 10 has a pointed end 16 for piercing the insulation on the main conductor, which is located through the main bore of the annulus, when it is screwdriven through the nut 9. The barred end of the branch conductor passes through the hole 6 and between the nut 9 and washer assembly. When the screw is tightened the nut rides back towards the washers to clamp the end of the branch conductor whilst the pointed end 16 makes contact with the main conductor.
