Abstract
1,170,158. Latches. G. BORGHI. 11 April, 1967 [16 June, 1966], No. 16409/67. Heading E2A. [Also in Division E2] A sliding latch 5 for a washing machine loading/unloading door 3 is interlocked with an actuating rod 12 of a switch 13/14 controlling the electric power supply to the machine, so that the machine cannot be started when the door is open, and the door cannot be opened while the machine is running. The rod 12, having a hand knob 16 on one end, passes through a slot 9 in the latch 5 and carries a collar 18 which, when the switch is closed, is positioned between arcuate lugs 10, 11 on the latch 5 to prevent movement of the latch. With the switch open, the latch 5 may be. depressed by pushing a button 7, to release the hook 4 on the door 3, the door. being spring-biassed open. While the button 7 is depressed lug 10 prevents movement of collar 18 and rod 12 for switch closure. With the door open, a spring 6 urges the latch 5 upwards so that lug 11 blocks movement of the collar 18 and rod 12.
