Abstract

1,170,026. Bags, boxes, packages. UNION CARBIDE CORP. 26 July, 1968 [7 Aug., 1967], No. 35704/68. Headings B8C, B8K and B8P. An open flat bag comprises two superimposed flat wall members 10, 12 joined together at their edges e.g. by heat sealing to define a mouth 14 for the open bag, a closure flap 20 adapted to extend from one wall member 12 beyond and over the bag mouth 14, and on to the other wall member 10 to seal the bag, and an adhesive 24 disposed on the inside of the closure flap 20, the flap 20 being folded upon itself into two overlying superimposed portions with the adhesive enclosed therebetween. In use, the free end of the folded overflap 20 is pulled upward in order to separate the adhering folded portions and to expose the full closure flap 20 for use in sealing the bag. The closure flap 20 may be an integral extension of the rear wall 12, and the adhesive 24, which is preferably pressure sensitive e.g. acrylic, natural or synthetic rubber or poly (vinyl ether), may be formed as a continuous or discontinuous stripe, or as a single patch. Bags may be dispensed from a rectangular carton (Fig. 4), through a dispensing slot 30 having cut-out finger portions 32.
