Abstract

880,250. Paper bags. PAPER SACKS Ltd., and BIBBY & SONS Ltd., J. Aug. 9, 1960 [Aug. 17, 1959], No. 28040/59. Class 94(2). Relates to multi-ply paper bags or sacks having block bottom end folding closures in which an outer face flap is secured to other end portions of the bag and according to the invention one of the plies of the outer face flap, or a separate insert lying between or under the plies thereof, is extended beyond the end of the outer face flap to form a projecting tongue, the end closure being sealed with adhesive in such a manner that the bag may be opened by pulling on the tongue to rupture the seal and release the outer face flap. Fig. 3, shows a closure when sealed, the innermost ply of the outer face flap 4, for the extent between the triangular corners 2, projecting to form a tongue 6. Fig. 4 shows a closure before being folded over and sealed, an insert 7, under the innermost ply 5, projecting at 8 to form a tongue after completion of the closure. In the arangement shown in Fig. 5, the ply 9 which projects at 10 is the innermost-but-two, A secondary tongue 12, to complete the opening, may be provided on the innermost but one ply by leaving an area unpasted. The closure may incorporate a valve in known manner.
