Abstract

1,169,742. Transformers. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. 30 Jan., 1967 [2 Feb., 1966], No. 4526/66. Heading H1T. The windings of a transformer are wound on an insulating bobbin 7 which fits on to core parts 3, 4 of a magnetic pot core structure 1, 2, the secondary winding being wound before the primary and its high-voltage end lead being led out through an insulating sleeve 12 bonded in a passageway 10 formed in one of the end cheeks 9 of the bobbin. The insulated turns of the transformer are bonded together to form a solid mass, by, for example, drip impregnation with a polyester based resin impregnant which is polymerized by a heating current passed through the secondary winding. The bobbin may preferably have been compressed during winding, and released thereafter to produce spaces at the winding ends which, like the space around sleeve 12, are filled with the impregnant. The pot core structure is preferably sintered or moulded from ferrite material and has corner portions 5, 6 to define the inner cavity for containing the bobbin which may be moulded from glass-filled nylon.
