Abstract
1,169,694. Steam generator furnaces. CENTRAL ELECTRICITY GENERATING BOARD. 27 Oct., 1966 [27 July, 1965], No. 32083/65. Heading F4B. A tubulous steam generator is arranged for straight through flow of the combustion gases, burners 10 being arranged over a vertical front wall 11, and banks of water tubes forming division plates 13, pendant superheaters 14, further superheaters and reheaters 15 and economizers 16 being arranged along the length of the furnace. The tube banks 13 are heated by radiation from the flame, the remaining heat exchange surfaces being heated by convection. The screens 13 may extend from top to bottom of the furnace chamber, and may extend up to the end wall 11 so that each burner fires into a separate combustion chamber section. Dust hoppers may be provided below the convection heated sections. The economizer sections 16 may be arranged in a vertical downpass. The avoidance of local recirculation within the heating sections of the boiler prevents the retention of some gas particles for very much longer than the average residence time. Some burners may be arranged in the side walls before the tube screens 13.
