A socket 2 having an internal flange 7 surrounds a deformable, tubular gasket 1 dimensioned to receive the ends of tubes 3, 4 and a gland 5 is movable into the socket by means such as a nut 6. The parts of the coupling are dimensioned relative to each other such that an annular space 8 is formed along the length of the gasket between the outside of the gasket and the inside of the socket or between the inside of the gasket and the outside of the tube ends. The gasket has an internal annular flange 9, and the flange 7 and gland 5 each have conical surfaces directed towards the gasket; the latter may have conical end surfaces.
