Abstract

[Also in Divisions F1 and F2] A plant protection appliance comprises a blower 8, the drive shaft of which is a subdivided universal joint shaft 3 situated in a tubular shaft tunnel 2 in the material container 1, there being universal joints 4, 6 at each end of the shaft and an intermediate universal joint 5 with a bearing 9 within the shaft tunnel. The bearing may be held in place in the tunnel by an elastic tyre like rubber body 10. In a modification, Fig. 2, the rubber body has a diameter slightly greater than the internal diameter of the shaft tunnel, and the body is held in position by its own elasticity. In a second modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the rubber body is held on to the bearing by clamping rings, and screws may be tightened to deform the body when it is in place in the tunnel and cause the body to press against a seating in the tunnel wall. In a third modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the rubber body may be secured in an airtight manner to the bearing and be supplied with an air valve (17). The body may thus be inflated when the bearing is in position to cause the body to press against the walls of the tunnel. Other materials may be used for the body 10, for example foam rubber.
