Abstract

1,158,347. Rollers; securing roll shells to shafts. JOH. KLEINEWEFERS SOHNE. 15 Aug., 1966 [29 Sept., 1965], No. 36421/66. Heading F2U. A calendering roll comprises a synthetic resin (e.g. polyamide) shell 1 secured to a steel spindle 2 by an inflatable element 7. As shown a rubber tube 7 is fixed on the shaft 2 by bonds 8 and pressure fluid supplied through ducts 5, 6, expands the tube between the bonds into engagement with the shell 1. In Fig. 1 (not shown), axial tubes (4) in a rubber sleeve (3) between the shaft (1) and shell (2) are supplied with pressure fluid to expand the sleeve into contact with the shell. The pressure fluid may be compressed air or pressure liquid which latter additionally cools the roll.
