Abstract

1,066,423. Rollers. MOUNT HOPE MACHINERY Ltd. Feb. 10, 1966 [April 28, 1965; Oct. 15, 1965], No. 5802/66. Heading F2U. A roller, more particularly a table roll for a paper machine, comprises an outer sleeve member rotatable around an inner fixed support, their surfaces being separated by pressure fluid supplied through passages discharging on either side of the load contact point. As shown, an inner tubular member 12 is supported on end bearings and carries the inner fixed support member 14 encircled by the outer flexible sleeve 44. The member 14 is of non-circular section having arcuate working portions 54A- 54D of differing radii, and is rotatable to bring any one of the working portions into engagement with a wire, sheet or other travelling element 46. Groups of three fluid supply ports 58 are formed in the support member 14 and may be brought into register with similar passages 60A-60D in the working portions 54A-54D, the centre passages being located at the load contact area and the arrangement enabling sleeve 44 to move freely over support 14. In a further arrangement, Fig. 3 (not shown), the sleeve 14 is rigid and of circular form, made of hard rubber or fibreglass, and rotates around a fixed circular support 12. A tension rod 34 is adjustable to avoid longitudinal curvature in the roll.
