Abstract

1,167,418. Knitting machines. WILDT MELLOR BROMLEY Ltd. 29 July, 1968 [4 Aug., 1967], No. 35804/67. Heading D1C. [Also in Division G3] The selector mechanism for actuating the jacks of a circular stationary cylinder machine as described in Specification 1,145,394 is controlled by solenoids S Which influence latches 26 controlling the position of programming levers 23 the operative ones of which actuate the presser slides 18 of the selector mechanism. The solenoids S are energised according to the dictates of a punched film or band which is read photoelectrically by a series of photoelectric cells 29 which transmit the information recorded by the presence or absence of punched holes in the film to thyristors which store the information received. Operated in conjunction with the rotation of the machine parts is a reed switch RS which is incorporated in the circuit of an electronic timer T. The reed switch RS is actuated at intervals in relationship to the machine speed to charge a capacitor C of the electronic timer T and to subsequently permit its discharge into a transistor TR thereby generating a power pulse which fires or triggers the previously opened thyristors 29 which thereupon energise the corresponding solenoids. Consequently the punched film can be advanced and the information received by the thyristors prior to it being used, the stored information then being imparted to the machine only when the reed switch, which is operated in timed relationship with the machine, activates the timer to permit the thyristors to effect energisation of the solenoids. All of the levers 23 are initially moved to an operative position in which their noses 23b are projected into a path in which they would engage a tail 19c of a lever 19 controlling the presser slides 18. For this purpose a roller 52 on the end of a slide 51 carrying a cam follower 50 serves to engage a beater bar 41 and to move the levers 23 accordingly. Likewise a beater bar 53 operated by a cam actuated lever 60 moves all of the latches 26 into an inoperative position. Subsequently on energisation of the respective solenoids according to the programme dictates of the punched film, the selected solenoids move the corresponding latches 26 into an operative position in which they engage the arms 23c of the corresponding levers 23 to prevent their return to an inoperative position and consequently they remain operative with their noses 23b projected.
