1328757 Knitting-machines STIBBE MACHINERY Ltd 13 March 1972 [6 April 1971] 10641/71 Heading D1C [Also in Division F2] Horizontal striping yarn guides 21 of a circular knitting machine are preselected by a system of cams 24, 25 which are racked stepwise by an indexing solenoid RS under the electronic control of a pattern means the yarn guides being moved into their operative selected position or their inoperative position by means of an operating member 31 which is moved in sequence with the rotation of the drum by means of a cam member. As shown a stack of cams 24, 25 is indexed to a position where one of a bank of yarn guides is selected. The lobe 24a of cam 24 acts on its respective quadrant 28 and this is pivoted to turn a yarn guide-operating lever 29 against the action of its restoring spring 30. The movement of the yarn guide 21 by its operating lever 29 is such that a leg 21d thereof moves to the left in Fig. 1 such that as a bar 17 on the operating member 31 rises it moves the yarn guide further to the left and in to the operating position as the bar engages the arm 21d. As the arm 17 rises and falls either the arm 21d engages a projection 34a or the arm 17 itself engages a projection 34b to operate a yarn cutting and clamping arm 34 which pivots about a pin 16. A latch member 33 engages the ends 21c of the yarn guides to hold them in the operative position. The latch members are rotatable about a pin 18 and are acted on by projections 29c to engage the yarn guides or by projections 29b to disengage the latch when a yarn guide is to be taken out of operation. The indexing of the cams 24, 25 is controlled from a magnetic tape or the like which feeds information to a circuit which determines the position of the cams and knitting machine and causes indexing of the cams accordingly.
