1276980 Knitting machines H STOLL G STOLL E STOLL E STOLL J STOLL A STOLL R E STOLL and M STOLL 18 Jan 1971 [23 Jan 1970] 2303/71 Heading D1C A flat bed knitting machine having needles selected by selector jacks acting through needle jacks and having staggered butts acted on by lock parts electrically operated or controlled in accordance with a pattern to put selected needles out of operation until they are reset by further lock parts engaging the selector jacks. As shown, parts 10-15 from the knitting lock and 16-20 the transfer lock, and these operate on the butts 67 of needle operating jacks 62. Butt 67 may pass through at "knitting" level, "tucking" level or at "non- knitting" level in either direction. The transfer lock has "stitch transfer" path 28, "stitch receiving" path 30 and a "non-transfer" and "non-receiving" path. Selector jacks 56 have pattern butts 55 at successively different levels in successive jacks of a series. Jacks 56 are each mounted adjacent a resilient intermediate jack 71 with a butt 74 and a needle actuating jack with a butt 67 and pivoted to a needle 65 all in the needle trick. Jacks 56 are operated by pattern lock 21 which has the same lock parts corresponding to each level of the butts and including parts 46-53 which are movable perpendicular to the plane of the lock. The pressed lock parts depress the intermediate jacks 71 into tricks 66 and jacks 71 are then acted on by lock parts 54 acting on butts 74 to shift the jacks under bar 61. Butts 67 of jacks 62 are drawn out of the ambit of the lock parts until jacks 71 are pulled forward when surfaces 75 engage under bar 61 and jacks 62 spring back to their rest positions. In a modification, jacks 71 and bar 61 are omitted. Each lock part 46 to 53 is connected to its own transducer. In a modification, the patterning lock consists only of the lock parts 46'-53' arranged similarly to the parts 46-53 and each selector jack 56' has a restoring butt 57 all of these being at the same level. Each jack 56' is pivoted to a slider element 58 with a bevelled end 59 which engages bar 61. Element 58 engages the flexible portion of needle jack 62 which is pivoted to needle 65. Between the levels of patterning butts 55', there are parallel cam tracks 68 easily removable to facilitate the changing of jacks and having cam elements 69 between the jacks which raise the parts 46'-53' into the carriage between successive butts and into the range of electromagnets in the carriage which may hold them out of range of butts 55'. Alternatively, permanent magnets may be used. The machine may be parallel or links-links.
