Abstract

116,670. Hollands, A. V. Feb. 6, 1918. Locking nuts.-In means for locking nuts employing a cap with polygonal ends engaging the nut and the polygonal end of the bolt, the cap carries a spring catch or clip adapted to engage a groove in the bolt to prevent accidental removal of the cap. A cap b, Fig. 8, is provided with polygonal surfaces engaging with similar surfaces inside or outside the nut a and with the polygonal end e<1> of the bolt e. A split spring sleeve d secured to the cap snaps into a groove e<2> in the bolt to prevent accidental removal of the cap. The cap may be formed in two parts, Fig. 11, connected by a pawl b<3> and ratchet b<2> to adjust the cap according to the length of the bolt. The cap b, Fig. 12, may carry pins adapted to engage radial slots in the nut.
