Abstract

[Also in Division F4] In a method of forming heat exchangers particularly vehicle radiators a plurality of deformed rectangular sheets 10 of aluminium foil are bonded together by adhesive to define fluid flow paths for the heat exchange media e.g. water and air. Each sheet e.g. 10a, 10b, 10c, 10d is printed with adhesive in a predetermined pattern such that only the areas of the sheet abutting adjacent sheets in the assembly are coated with adhesive. Apertures such as 11 are formed in a flat sheet which is then deformed to the configuration shown, viz. a series of spaced apart closed loop channels 12 with transverse channels 13 interposed therebetween. To assemble the heat exchanger the sheets 10 are placed in abutting relationship and compressed causing the adhesive to bond the sheets together. After the adhesive has cured the assemble of sheets is deformed by moving the laminates apart so forming a honeycomb structure as shown.
