Abstract
1,165,463. Two-part couplings. BASSANI S.p.A. 24 April, 1967, No. 18817/67. Heading H2E. Insertion of a plug 23-24 in a shuttered socket 1 deflects pivoted arms e.g. 10, 11, which support a shutter 3, so releasing the shutter from projections 12 on the arms and enabling it to be depressed by the plug until contact blades, e.g. 30, 31 of the plug engage respective contacts, e.g. 22, 21 carried by the pivoted arms. Compression springs are located between the shutter and socket base and between the arms and socket side walls, grooves (7, Fig. 2, not shown) in the shutter slidably engaging longitudinal ribs (5) on the socket side walls. Contact strips, e.g. 18, 16 having terminals 19 support the arms and are connected to the respective contacts 22, 21. The plug body comprises insulating halves 23, 24 secured together by a screw and bushing 25, 26. The contact blades 30, 31, whose free ends project through apertures in the plug body are retained by terminal screws. A cable insulation-gripping band 34 is secured to the plug body part 24 by screws 35. The plug and socket bodies may include polarizing ribs and grooves. The invention is described with reference to a three-pole device for establishing connection to a single-phase supply, but is also applicable to four-pole connectors for use with a three-phase supply.
