A spinning chamber 1 is mounted on a driving spindle 2 mounted in radial air bearings 4 mounted in elastic dampers 5 and a thrust bearing formed by a conical end 7 of the spindle and a flat bearing surface 8. The body 6 in which the bearings are mounted is carried in a further damping element 12 in the frame. The flat bearing 8 is preferably of graphite and is mounted in a shell 9 rotatable in the body 6. The conical end 7 engages the bearing 8 eccentrically and by rotating the bearing 8 a fresh portion of it is presented to support the conical end. The air bearings 4 are also preferably of graphite. The spindle is driven by a belt 3.
