Abstract

1,085,184. Break-spinning apparatus. EXPERIMENTALNY NAUCHNO-ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT METALLOREZHUSCHIKH STANKOV. Sept. 3, 1965, No. 37829/65. Heading D1D. [Also in Division F2] Apparatus for spindleless pneumatic spinning, comprises a rotary head, e.g. a spinning- cup 2, carried by a rotatable sleeve supported in a fixed shaft 3 by air-bearings. Attached to one end of the sleeve is an end bearing 8 and at the other an end of the sleeve is an end-bearing 7 attached to a fixed part. The shaft is bored axially or grooved on its surface for connexion to a source of compressed air, and ducts lead from the bore to the inside of the sleeve and the end bearings. In other forms, the sleeve is arranged vertically and is connected to the rotor of an electric motor of which the stator is connected to a fixed housing. The tendency of the cup and sleeve to rise under the influence of reduced pressure generated inside the cup is offset by the weight of the rotor. In all forms, graphite is placed between the sleeve and shaft.
