Abstract
1,154,659. Edge filter. GENERAL MOTORS CORP. 9 Nov., 1967 [20 Feb., 1967], No. 50996/67. Heading B1D. [Also in Division F4] A fuel injection nozzle for a gas turbine engine has orifices 51, for secondary fuel, protected from clogging by an edge filter 21 - - 26 which defines apertures of smaller width than the orifices. Primary fuel passes through central passage 31 to orifice 54 without filtering. The edge filter comprises central hollow stem 22, casing 21, washers 23, 24, 26 and ring 25. Washer 23 is a press fit on stem 22 and holds the other members thereon, stem 22 being brazed to washer 26. Washers 24, 26 have radial grooves 42, (43), which form apertures in cooperation with ring 25 (Figs. 2, 3, not shown), while washer 23 and casing 21 define a complete annular gap therebetween which serves as the upstream aperture. The filter and the nozzle assembly are clamped to fuel supply boss 10 by cap 18. An alternative filter (Fig. 4, not shown) comprises a first annular gap and ten radial passages (91, 92). Gap and passage dimensions are exemplified.
