Abstract

1380028 Gas turbine engine combustion equipment GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 21 March 1973 [29 March 1972] 13676/73 Headings F1G and F1L The invention relates to a gas turbine engine in which means are provided to inject steam into the combustion equipment. The combustion equipment shown is of the reverse flow type and comprises an outer casing 2 and an inner flame tube 5 which define therebetween an annular air flow passage 8. Combustion air inlet openings 12 and 14 are formed in the flame tube at the upstream region thereof and dilution air inlet openings 16 and 22 are formed downstream of the combustion region. Steam injection nozzles 20 project radially inwardly through the outer casing in alignment with the dilution air inlet openings 22 so that when no steam is flowing dilution air flows in through the openings 22 also through the openings 16; when steam is flowing through the nozzles however the steam jets expand to fill the openings 22 with steam so that no dilution air can flow in through the openings 16. Some steam may pass from the nozzles 20 to flow upstream through the annular air passage 8 to enter the flame tube through the air inlet openings 12, 14. Further steam injection nozzles 19 are provided and discharge steam axially upstream through the air passage 8.
