Abstract
1,153,866. Hydraulic jacks. W. E. & F. DOBSON Ltd. 21 Sept., 1966 [28 Sept., l965] No. 41128/65. Heading B8J. An hydraulic advancing cylinder 1 and ram 2 for a mine roof support system (not shown) is connected at 2a to a sectionalized working face conveyer (not shown). The cylinder 1 is fitted at one end 1a with an annular block 1b and is closed at the other end by a valve block 5 having passages 7, 8 normally isolated from each other by a slide valve member 15 loaded by a spring 16 to project into the cylinder 1. The ram 2 is formed at the piston head end with a cylinder bore 2c in which is a bush 19 through which slides an auxiliary piston 22 with an outer piston head 23 normally held retracted by a compression spring 24. In normal operation the valve member 15 is depressed at the end of the contraction stroke of the device and connection is established between the passages 7, 8 to pass a signal to investigate the next operation of resetting the support to the roof. If towards the end of the contraction stroke of the cylinder 1 an obstruction prevents completion of the stroke the fluid back pressure in front of the piston head 23 drops and the working fluid pressure acting in the cylinder base 2c through a duct 2d on the small area of the auxiliary piston rod 22a overcomes the decreased back pressure and the force of the compression spring 24 to extend the auxiliary piston 23 so as to operate the valve member 15 to pass a signal by connecting the passages 7, 8.
