Abstract
1,206,083. Fluid-pressure jacks. COMPAGNIE DES ATELIERS ET FORGES DE LA LOIRE. April 3, 1969 [April 8, 1968], No.17651/69. Heading F1P. A fluid operated jack comprises a cylinder 4 having end bearings 11 slidably supporting the two diameter piston rod 3 of a piston 5 spaced from the cylinder, the arrangement being such that fluid supplied to the cylinder through a port 8 causes low force movement of the piston 5 until it enters a bore 10, whereafter connection of a port 9 to exhaust results in high force movement. A piston 2 fixed to the rod 3 slides in a second cylinder 1 having a port 7 supplied with fluid to cause a return stroke. During the return stroke fluid is also supplied to the port 9 until the piston 5 leaves the bore 10. In a modification the lefthand portion of piston rod 3 and its piston 2 are omitted and the piston 5 is returned by a further jack connected to the right-hand rod portion. By providing a succession of axially spaced portions in the cylinder 4, equal in diameter to the piston 5, alternate high and low force movements are obtained.
