Abstract

1,152,701. Coin-freed apparatus. SMITH & NEPHEW PLASTICS Ltd. 13 June, 1966 [12 March, 1965], No. 10704/65. Heading G4V. A coin-freed dispenser for carrier bags 17 comprises a support 10 for the bag handles 16 which stops short of a top cover 18 to form a gap 20 normally closed by a slidable rod 21, the rod being slid rearwardly when a coin is thrust through a slot 30 to engage a cross-bar 33. Rearward movement of the rod pivots a lever 23 through an abutment 24 whereby the front end 26 of the lever engages the cover 18. Removal of a bag through the gap 20, pivots the lever 23 anticlockwise to reset the rod 21 and prevent withdrawal of a second bag before the insertion of another coin. In a modification, the cross-bar 33 is spaced below the coin slot whereby two coins have to be placed in a guide channel extending between the slot and cross-bar before thrust may be applied to the latter, Fig. 4 (not shown). As shown in Fig. 5, a first coin is inserted in slot 38 to move a cover 40 rearwardly and align slots 39, 41 for the reception of a second coin.
