Abstract

A sheet dispenser comprises an enclosure 5 to house the sheet material having an opening through which sheet material may be inserted and/or dispensed, which opening is closable by a lid 14, and a sheet dispensing mechanism including a portion 32 adapted to frictionally engage a sheet 44 lying in the enclosure and move it towards the opening when lid 14 is moved in a closing direction, and to slide over the sheet material when lid 14 is moved in an opening direction. Lid 14 is adapted to be slid open on rollers 15 and pass under the top surface 7 of the enclosure 5 thereby compressing spring 25 on rod 22, and carrying friction member 32 pivotally connected to bush 26 slidably mounted on the rod 22, to the position shown in Fig. 5. Release of lid 14 causes it to close under the action of spring 25 and thereby move the top sheet by means of member 32 such that it projects from the then sealed enclosure, Fig. 5, sufficiently to enable removal. A fresh supply of sheets is inserted by fully opening lid 14 when projections 33 engage ramps 34 to lift member 32 out of its operative position. Member 32 is held inoperative by clip 35 which engages the end portion of rod 22. The member 32 is returned to its operative position on the first closure of the lid. A flange (38, Fig. 1, not shown) is provided in enclosure 5 which may be positioned in a number of selected locations between the front and back walls of tray 6 so that various sizes of paper may be accommodated. A further sheet carrying enclosure may be provided beneath the first in the form of a drawer 2.
