Abstract
1,150,043. Fuel injection systems. CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO. March 13, 1967, No. 11694/67. Heading F1B. A small amount of auxiliary fuel e.g. lubricating oil, is added to the primary fuel at a point 32 between the fuel injection pump 14 and injector 30. The pump 14 has an outlet check valve 27 with an enlarged skirt 47 which, on closing of the valve, produces a pressure drop in the delivery pipe 18 to draw in the auxiliary fuel from pipe 36. The auxiliary fuel has a high cetane valve to assist ignition of the main fuel and is supplied under control of a solenoid operated valve 40 the circuit of which contains a switch 52, Fig. 1, closed at high speeds by the governor control 20 and a switch 53 closed at low intake manifold pressures. When valve 40 is open, the auxiliary fuel is supplied by pump 39 under pressure to pipe 36 and enters the main delivery pipe 33 through check valve 45 upon each closing of valve 27. When pipe 36 is closed by valve 40, a second pipe 43 supplied with the primary fuel is opened and small amounts of primary fuel are fed to the main pipe 33 to avoid cavitation upon closing of the valve 27.
