Abstract

1,149,302. Continuous casting. URALSKY ZAVOD TYAZHELOGOMASHINOSTROENIA IMENI S. ORDZHONIKIDZE. 20 Jan., 1967 [15 March, 1966], No. 3169/67. Heading B3F. A cast strand 2 is withdrawn from a mould by two groups of bars in the spraycooling zone, the groups moving alternately as described in Specification 842,358, one group 1 of bars arranged on opposite sides of the strand having two plates 3 connected to it (by brackets 5, 6) to be moved against the other sides 4 of the strand 2 to prevent deformation of those sides and be moved away when the group of bars is moved upwardly. The bars of the other group are interdigitated with those of the group 1 and are not visible in the drawing. Each of the two plates 3 is moved by two hydraulic cylinders (7, 8) having fixed pistons secured by way of cross beams 11, 12 to the brackets 5, 6. For cooling the strand 2, the faces of the plates 3 are backed by coolant passages (18). A cam 16, on the shaft 17 driving the bars, actuates a device 15 for distributing pressure liquid to the cylinders (7, 8). The ends of the cylinders are connected to the plates 3 by spigots eccentric of the axes of the cylinders and hingedly so that part-rotation of the cylinders adjusts the plates sideways to centre on the sides 4 of strands of various thicknesses.
